TV Stands – Choosing The Right One
Long gone are the days when all TV stands were the same. Plain, square, and offering no sense of design other than being a functional piece of furniture to hold your “portable” TV.
Nowadays your choice of a TV stand can make or break a room. Most TV come with a TV stand that matches its shape and design. If your 32″ LCD is framed in glossy black, chances are the store has at least a few stands that will nicely complement your choice of TV.
Keep in mind that a TV stand should be able to serve multiple functions other than keeping your new expensive TV off the ground. Is there room for external speakers? What about your DVD player, CDs, DVDs, or even your old VHS tapes?
Is it tall enough to be able to see from where you plan on sitting and watching? One of the most common mistakes people make is to buy a stand for a TV in their bedroom, and when they lie on the bed they suddenly realize they can’t see the TV. The stand isn’t tall enough! Measure the height of your bed and add another 12″. That should be the height of your stand. Or, of course, put it on your top of your dresser and save on space.
Another common mistake is to get a stand that is too low for the size of the TV. Low stands are usually reserved for larger sized TVs in the 52″ range, nothing less. Putting a 21″ TV on a low stand could mean you’ll be staring at the floor for the rest of the evening!
If you purchase an entertain center – one of those huge pieces of furniture that covers the entire wall – make sure you adjust the shelves for maximum TV viewing. Again, you don’t want it too high or too low.
